NEWS OF THE DAY.

Some of the streets in Danevirke will be much improved in appearance when the footpaths, which Mr J. BAK is now forming, are completed. It would add very much to the improvement of tho town if the railway crossing near the Junction Hotel were carried straight through in line with the street, instead of being deviated as at present. Can nothing be done to have the crossing put in its proper place?

NEWS OF THE DAY.

A remarkable thing happened in Danevirke on Wednesday. Mr J. BAK is the owner of a two year old bull and on the day in question as Mr BAK's son, a youth of 16, was crossing the paddock, the animal gave chase. The boy picked up a stone and let fly at the bull. The missile struck its mark fair on the forehead and the bull dropped — stone dead.

From Mr J. BAK (re-read from last month) asking for reduction of rates. — Cr MACKAY said he had asked some people in his district, and he had been told that BAK was quite able to pay his rates.— On the motion of Cr HERRICK seconded by Cr ROSS, a reply was ordered to be sent to Mr BAK that the Council could not reduce the rate.
