First Generation :: Notes
1. Carl Edvard ELLINGSEN
Name variants: ELLINGSEN/ELLENGSEN/ELLENSEN.
In the 1865 Norwegian census, Carl ELLINGSEN is found at Fjerdingens Gade, Vor Frelsers Menighed, Kristiania, Akershus, Norway, with his wife, Hanna, and daughter, Karoline. He is a 'male worker or laborer' (arbeidsmand).
Carl Edvard ELLINGSEN not found in the 1875 Norwegian census, suggesting he may have died some time between the 1865 and 1875 Norwegian censi.
On his daughter's (Caroline's CARLSEN's) marriage certificate, Carl's occupation is recorded as "tobacco manufacturer".
Johanne Elizabeth ("Hanna") ANDRESEN
Name variants: Johanne/Hanna/Hannah Elisabeth/Elizabeth ANDRESEN/ANDERSEN/ELLINGSEN, but believe correct maiden name is Johanne Elisabeth ANDRESEN.
In the 1865 Norwegian census, Hanna ELLINGSEN is found at Fjerdingens Gade, Vor Frelsers Menighed, Kristiania, Akershus, Norway, with her husband, Carl ELLINGSEN, and daughter, Karoline.
In the 1875 Norwegian census, Hanna ELLINGSEN is found at Fjerdingens Gade, Vor Frelsers Menighed, Kristiania, Akershus, Norway. She is a married (u) housewife (hm) and is 'receiving support from the poor relief fund' (understøttes af fattigkassen). Hanna is found with her daughter, Caroline, and Hans ELLINGSEN. Her husband (in 1865), Carl Edvard ELLINGSEN, is not found in the 1875 Norwegian Census. As both Hanna and Hans are married, and Hans is listed as 'head of household' (hf), it is possible that Carl had died before 1875, and Hanna had remarried. The census does not specifically state that Hans is her husband. Given that he also has the name ELLINGSEN, he is likely to be a relative of Carl.
4. Fredrick ELLINGSEN
Frederick ELLINGSEN died at 3-4 years of age.
5. Carl Theodor ELLINGSEN
Carl Theodor ELLINGSEN was born in November 1857 and died the same year. It is possible that he died at birth.
6. Richard Fredrik ELLINGSEN
Richard Fredrik ELLINGSEN is not found with his parents, or elsewhere, in the 1865 Norwegian census (using search crtieria: first name starting with "ri" or "fr" and birth place containing "rist"). He appears to have died before the 1865 Norwegian census.
