Name variants: Carl/Charlie OLSEN/STEFFENSEN. (NOTE: it was common for Norwegian immigrants to anglicise their names to Charles.)
In 1880, Carl Olaf OLSEN travelled from Oslo to Queensland, Australia in 1880. His mother, Caroline Elise CARLSEN, emigrated as an unmarried woman. Carl travelled with the family of Anders ANDERSON and Anne Marie LIND. (It was common for the children of widowed and single women to travel with family groups to disguise the fact that their mother was not independent.)
They later lived in Bundaberg (not far from Rockhampton), Queensland, Australia. After Svend died on 6 October 1901, Caroline and Carl travelled to New Zealand in 1901.
Carl was adopted, formally or informally, by stepfather, Svend STEFFENSEN. Carl's descendants know him as Carl STEFFENSEN.
Carl opened STEFFENSEN's Cordial Factory in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand, in about 1902.
Carl STEFFENSEN and his mother lived in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand. Carl died in 1944. Both he and his mother are buried at a local cemetery.
