The family moved to Kristiania after the birth of their first child, Hans Gustav. They lived at Rodelokka, Braneribakke 14. Their 2 younger sons were born in Kristiania, and all 3 were christened there.
Bertil was balloted section no. 69 at Garfield, South Norsewood.
Bertil's wife, Maria, died shortly after the family arrived in New Zealand. Berthold raised his 3 sons alone. When she died, Bertil set out to take his boys, aged 8, 6, and 3, to friends in Palmerston North, but turned around and came back, unable to let them go.

After marrying Bertil, Marie moved to Tommerasen farm where Bertil worked. She then moved back to her parents farm while Bertil worked in Hamar, and then to Kristiania (Oslo).
Died shortly after arriving in New Zealand.
Probably buried at Norsewood Cemetery.

Martin GUNDERSON charged with disturbing the service at the Weslyan Church, Norsewood. J.E. STENBERG & J. FREDERICKSEN, proved the case. They stated that the defendant had been using obscene language in church.
