"A settler at Norsewood named Hans ANDERSEN was killed on Wednesday night through the upsetting of a spring cart in which he was riding. The horse which the deceased was driving was young, and had never been in harness before, and ANDERSEN, being under the influence of liquor, was unable to control the animal's vagaries, which culminated in an upset on the main road at Norsewood, just below Mr DROWER's store. A man named Anders JOHANNSEN, who was in the cart with the deceased, received such severe internal injuries that it is doubtful whether he will recover."

8Hawke's Bay Herald, Volume XXI, Issue 6332, 19 August 1882, Page 4.
"ANDERSEN, who was killed by the accident in Norse wood last night, leaves a wife and family quite unprovided for.

I paid a visit to the Norse wood cemetery a short time ago, and was surprised to find it still uncleared and unfenced, large logs lying across the graves, and everything in a chaotic mass of confusion. I do not know whose business it is to look after it, but I know such a place is a disgrace to a civilised community, and must be grievous to those who are forced to bury their dead there.

We have had nothing but almost incessant rain for the last two months, and consequently very little out-door work has been done, with the exception of ballasting on the railway line, which has been carried on vigorously, owing to the many slips along the line. This has been the wettest winter we have had for several years."
