Introduction:
In 1872, Anders Mattsson LUNDGREN, his wife, Märta (Martha) PERSDOTTER, and two of their children, Richard and Karl Eskild Konstantin, emigrated from Norway as “assisted immigrants” aboard the Høvding, to Napier, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. They arrived on September 01, 1872, after a voyage of 93 days.
Anders LUNDGREN was among the first adult male settlers at Norsewood, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
The LUNDGRENs had 9 more children in New Zealand. Of their 11 children, only 3 (maybe 4) appear to have been living at the time of emigration to the United States. Most of the children that died appear to have died at, or shortly after birth, or before the age of five.
The family appears to have lived at Norsewood until c. late 1888, when they emigrated to the United States.
