Bessie MANDLE
Bessie was quite a buxom woman and a real salesperson. They had the most beautiful chinawear - probably from the shop.
49. Eunice Myrtle (Myrtle) MORTENSEN
Myrtle had a shop on the corner of Karangahape and Ponsonby Road selling china and giftware. I think her mother owned the shop. Myrtle had no children.
50. Daphne MORTENSEN
Never married, she had what was described as a 'very good position' in some professional office. She had no children.
55. Jack MORTENSEN
Died in WW2.
32. Ida Lillian MORTENSEN
Ida was banished from the family home when Ted was born.
34. Montague Leslie ("Jack") MORTENSEN
Montague worked with the Auckland trams from time to time as a mechanic. He became a Disabled Serviceman about 1930, after internal operations were needed to repair damage done by Mustard gas in the War.
He was very clever with his hands making toys for children.
43. Helena Emily Mary (Emily) MORTENSEN
Emily became a very talented piano player.
Peter Alick JOHANSEN
Peter was a ship deserter, living for a while in the Akatarawas.
He made his way to Norsewood where he met Emily.
He gave up farming after being crippled by Polio.
By shear determination he taught himself to walk and learnt the confectionary trade. He set up shop in Masterton, Wairarapa, New Zealand.
44. Johan Frederick ("Freddie") MORTENSEN
Veterinary Corps 11/1581 tpr.
46. Belle Adeline ("Bella") LARSEN (MORTENSEN)
Born Belle Adeline LARSEN, daughter of Bertha Matilda LARSEN. Adopted by Hans and Olene MORTENSEN family 13 Dec 1907 (aged 17 months). Her family suspects Hans was her biological father.
Richard Andrew ("Dick") ANDERSEN
Richard ANDERSEN's mother, Elizabeth, married Hans MORTENSEN after she was widowed. Richard later married Belle MORTENSEN, daughter of Hans, who was his 'step sister'.
Last address: "Fernhills," Norsewood, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
76. [Infant] ANDERSEN
Stillborn. Although this baby was never officially named, his mother, Bella ANDERSEN, says they named him Richard.
